Thinking after teaching
Generally speaking, this period of class is a success. Before class I was not familiar to the students in Jiangwang High School, but after class we got to know each other well. We sang and laughed together just like good friends. Emotionally, this impressed the students and teacher deeply. So students were willing to cooperate with me. In the very beginning part, through the song ‘If you are happy’, students were activated. When it came to the reading part, I designed several questions to help students better understand the two passages. The discussion part was to usher students to thinking about their own happiest experience. This part was a preparation for the essay writing. So in the activity part students wouldn’t spend too much time to think about how to write the essay. Time was saved to finish the handbook. The activity part of course was the most important part of this class. It not only included teaching students how to make a handbook, but also taught them how to cooperate with others. If all of the previous parts were the inputs of this lesson, the activity part would be the output of this lesson. The presentation of the handbooks as a result was the climax of this lesson. The beautiful essay appreciation part was the sublimation part. And the song in the last minute was to consist with the beginning. As an English teacher, I clearly know that we are not teaching students to learn but teaching them how to learn. So from the design to the conduction of this lesson, I always kept this in mind. However, there must have been some flaws. For example, I should have given students more time to complete their essay and handbook. But time is limited, they could only be left after class. In a word, the main purposes were fulfilled in this lesson. The teacher and students experienced not only a period of class full of knowledge teaching, but also a happy moment with each other.
