1 Check homework.
2 Divide the class into pairs. Ask students to read the dialogues in Part A in pairs.
3 Students change roles and read the dialogues again .
Step 2 Presentation
1 Ask students to do Part B1individually.Encourage students to guess the meanings of words from the content and the given definitions.
2 Ask students to write new sentences using one of the identified words; You can give some as examples: This new coat is 200 yuan. That’s expensive. This pen is 3 yuan. That’s not expensive.
3 Ask the Ss to read the sentences to each other.
4 Ask students to look at table in Part B2.Explain that Amy did a survey of the most popular presents her friends would like to receive.
Ask some questions to check you understanding.e.g.,
How many girls would like to get hair clips as a present?
What is the most popular present for boys?
Who like comic book, boys or girls?
Do girls in Amy’s class like football?
Step 3 practise
1 Make a survey. Four Ss a group, one student write down the results of the survey in his group, list at least 6 presents and then make a survey in the group.
2. Ask several Ss to report his survey. He may say:
In my group, all of us like computer games. 2 girls like hair clip. 3 students like interesting books, …
3. While the Ss report their survey, let a student draw a table on the blackboard to record the things they like and the total number of the Ss who like this object.
4. Let the Ss work in pairs according to the table on the blackboard . eg: S1: How many Ss would like computer games in our class? S2: Thirty …
Step 4 consolidation
1.let the Ss write a short passage according to the table on the blackboard. Eg: In our class , 30 Ss would like computer games as birthday present. All the girls would like to get hair clips .
2. Solve the problem in part C. let the Ss do part C in pairs, have a discussion , try to solve the problem: What can kitty buy for Sandy and Simon ? Then check their answers.
